East Godavari District administration geared up to meet cyclone threat: Collector

Kakinada, Apr 26 (UNI) East Godavari Collector Kartikeya Mishra on Friday said that the district administration had been geared up to meet any eventuality in view of the weather forecast on the possible cyclone threat to the coastal areas.

There were contradictory predictions on the trajectory of the depression in the sea and exact position would be known on Saturday afternoon, Mr Mishra told to reporters here.

The present forecast indicate that the depression is presently located in 1700 kms south east of Machilipatnam and might intensify into severe cyclonic storm in next twelve hours period.

Basing on these predictions a state of alert was declared in the district and the fishermen who went for fishing despite ban are advised to return to Kakinada by Saturday evening.

If they fail to return, their family members should immediately inform the fisheries department to take further action, he added.

Further the collector said that the marine police, coast guard and the fisheries departments were also alerted on this situation and the Tahsildars and other departmental officers are asked to remain in head quarters to take immediate steps, if requires.
