EAM visits project site of Thila Male Bridge being financed by India

Male/New Delhi, Aug 10 (UN) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday visited the site of the Thila Male' Bridge project, being built with Indian assistance, and met with the staff of the Indian firm contracted to build the USD500 million bridge that will connect Male’, Vilimale’, Thilafushi, and Gulhifalhu.
Accompanied by Maldivian Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Abdullah Muththalib and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer, EAM met with the staff of Afcons India Infrastructure and sought the latest updates on the project. The company disclosed that 42% of the project has been completed so far.
The Thila Male' Bridge Project is being built with a USD100 million grant from the Indian Government and a USD400 million Line of Credit. The bridge is designed to cover a total of 6.7km. The bridge section to connect Male' City and Gulhifalhu is set to be completed on March 31, 2026, while the bridge interlinking Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi is scheduled to finish by September 30, 2026. The entire project is slated for completion on September 30, 2026, according to psmnews.
