Entertainment » OtherPosted at: Oct 21 2015 12:34PM Durga Puja, Panthoibi festival celebrated in ManipurImphal, Oct 21 (UNI) Thousands of devotees today thronged Hiyangthang Lairembi at Hiyangthang to offer prayers to the Goddess Hiyangthang , Panthoibi and Durga. It was a spectacular view as hundreds of volunteers, police personnel manned all the streets to the place, a small hillock. Groups of about 200 people were allowed to avoid stampede. The devotees, who are flocking the place since midnight, will continue to pay obeisance the whole day as thousands of people are coming to offer prayers. The Transport department, police and volunteers have made special arrangement for the same. Other temples like Kali mandir also witnessed similar turnout of devotees. In all the temples special prayers were held . Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Durga Puja. He said the festival of Durga Puja epitomizes the eternal message of victory of good over evil. ''This festival provides an inspiration for us to follow the path of righteousness and also reinforce the bond of brotherhood and amity among all sections of society in the state for a more peaceful and prosperous Manipur,'' he added. The celebrations coincide with the celebrations of Durga Puja by the Hindus and of Goddess Panthoibi of the Meitei community.
