DRI sleuths arrest four Air passsengers, recovers 4.08 kgs of gold worth Rs 1.55 crore in 5 cases

Hyderabad, Jan 24 (UNI) Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have arrested four Air passengers and recovered 4.08 kgs of gold, worth over Rs 1.66 crore in five cases on a single day at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad near here on Thursday.
Acting on the basis of specific intelligence, DRI Hyderabad rummaged an Air India flight coming from Dubai in the early hours on Thursday and recovered 840.98 grams of gold concealed beneath a seat, the DRI said in a release here on Friday.
The gold bars were wrapped and hidden inside a hollow tube beneath the seat.
In another case, DRI intercepted a passenger who had come from Muscat at the Customs arrival hall and through inspection of the goods resulted in recovery of 700 grams of gold in the form of 2 gold cylinders concealed deeply inside the transformer of a microwave oven carried by the passenger.
In yet another specific input that passenger arriving from Dubai would conceal gold, the passenger was intercepted at the Customs arrival hall and the passenger admitted to have concealed gold paste in his rectum.
The gold paste, weighing 928 grams, was packed into 4 neatly packed oval shaped capsules, was recovered.
Later in the day, two passengers coming via Saudi Arabia were intercepted based on a specific input, at the Customs Arrival hall and both the passengers admitted to have gold paste concealed in their rectum.
The gold weighing 797.24 grams and 917.24 grams were recovered from the gold paste of each passenger, the release said.
In this case too, the gold paste was packed into oval shaped capsules and was concealed in rectum.
In all the five cases, the gold weighing 4083.46 grams and the market rate of which is around Rs 1.66 crore, was seized under the provisions of Customs Act, 1962 and arrested 4 passengers , who were involved in smuggling of gold into India, the release added.
