New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) The Defence Research and Defence Organisation (DRDO) on Friday successfully flight tested a 500 kg class inertial guided bomb from Indian Air Force's (IAF) fighter jet Su-30 MKI from the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan.
The guided bomb achieved the desired range and hit the target with high precision, the defence ministry said.
All the mission objectives have been met. The weapon system is capable of carrying different warheads, it added.
On wednesday, the IAF had successfully fired the BrahMos air version missile from its frontline Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft at the Andaman and Nicobar Island.
The launch from the aircraft was smooth and the missile followed the desired trajectory before directly hitting the land target.
The air launched BrahMos missile is a 2.5 ton supersonic air to surface cruise missile with ranges of close to 300 km, designed and developed by BAPL.
The IAF became the first Air Force in the world to have successfully fired an air launched 2.8 Mach surface attack missile of this category on a sea target on November 22, 2017. Today’s was the second such live launch of the weapon, IAF spokesperson Gp Capt Anupam Banerjee had said.
