New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Blaming the AAP led Delhi government and BJP led MCD for the deaths of sanitation workers in recent months, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee today demanded Rs 1 crore as compensation for the families of the deceased. Addressing a press conference, DPCC chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee accused AAP led Delhi government and BJP led MCD of negligence into the deaths of manhole workers, as the first incident was reported in March this year and since then 9 more deaths have taken place due to same reason of manual scavenging. She said that despite so many deaths, the Kejriwal led Delhi government failed to take any preventive steps. She also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's project “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” has failed to ensure cleanliness of Delhi despite the allocation Rs 34212 crore in 2018-19 for the same. 'During the AAP rule in Delhi, the sanitation workers have been ignored and the families of those workers who died in harness two-three years ago, have not been given any employment as yet.' said Ex MLA Charan Singh Khandera adding that ' sanitation workers have also not been paid arrears accrued to them on the basis of the recommendation of the seventh Finance Commission.'
