Dozens of BJP supporters injured at Basirhat non-cooperation rally

Basirhat, Dec 24 (UNI) Police today resorted to lathi charge on a BJP sponsored non-cooperation movement here at Basirhat in the North 24 Parganas district, after the uniformed men came under attack with bricks and stones, official sources said.
The lathi charge left dozens of BJP supporters grievously injured. Among them, many received head injuries. The injured have been admitted to local hospitals, sources said.
The violence happened when some unidentified miscreants hurled stones at the policemen while the BJP leaders, including state president Dilip Ghosh, were addressing a rally near the district magistrate's office. The policemen immediately retaliated with lathi charge to disperse the attackers.
