Don’t mimic me: Morgan Freeman criticizes AI voice replication

Los Angeles, Nov 15 (UNI) Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman has spoken out strongly against the use of AI to replicate his distinctive voice and likeness.
In an interview with The Guardian, Freeman revealed that his legal team has been “very, very busy” removing unauthorized AI-generated imitations of his voice from the internet, Variety reported.
"I'm a little PO'd, you know," he said. "I'm like any other actor: don’t mimic me with falseness. I don’t appreciate it, and I get paid for doing stuff like that. So if you’re gonna do it without me, you’re robbing me."
Freeman has previously voiced concerns about AI misuse. In June 2024, he thanked fans on X for flagging AI-generated ads using a fake version of his voice.
"Thank you to my incredible fans for your vigilance and support in calling out the unauthorized use of an A.I. voice imitating me… Your dedication helps authenticity and integrity remain paramount," he wrote.
Freeman joins a growing list of celebrities opposing the unauthorized use of AI.
Scarlett Johansson has been one of the most vocal critics, after expressing anger last year over a voice released by OpenAI that she said sounded strikingly similar to hers- even after she declined the company’s request to use her actual voice. Johansson said she was “shocked” and “angered” by the situation.
