Doctors resign, escape duties; health services at stake in Dhalai

Ambassa, Tripura, Apr 17(UNI) Amidst the surging cases of COVID-19 and on the pretext of the annual surge in water-borne diseases, the health service received a major jolt in the last two days in Dhalai.
According to the sources, two doctors resigned from their duties in the Longthoraivalley subdivision whereas a doctor suddenly escaped duty without informing the authority in the bordering subdivision of Gandacharra. And it was speculated that some more doctors would resign from their duties soon.
The fatal scenario emerged as the Medical Officer In Charge(MOIC) of Purna Mohan Tripura Smriti PHC Dr. Agraj R. Marak tendered his resignation to the Chief Medical Officer(CMO) of Dhalai on 13th of April last. And Dr. Sukomal Sen, the MOIC of Lalchara PHC tendered his resignation today. Both the doctors from Longthoraivalley subdivision showed their inability to cope with excessive mental torture and pressure. It was also heard from sources that, the District Magistrate Govekar Mayur Ratilal measured some steps to ensure better health services to people which resulted in the development. In the meanwhile, another MOIC escaped his duty suddenly from remote Raisyabari PHC yesterday. That MOIC Dr. Bhupesh Debbarma left the PHC for home without informing the authority. Significantly, the period, each year, experiences a steep rise in the cases of water-borne diseases and malaria in the hilly terrains. The situation is worsened with the second wave of COVID-19. And adding to the concern, it is reported that, some more doctors are to tender their resignation soon.
