Doctors at Care hospitals performs rare pediatric liver transplant on 3-month-old baby

Hyderabad, Sept 24 (UNI) A specialised transplant surgeons team at Care Hospitals here have performed a rare pediatric liver transplant on a three-month-old baby from Jharkhand and given a new life.
A pediatric liver transplant is a procedure where the liver or part of the liver of a child is replaced by a new liver from a living or deceased organ donor.
However in this rare case, apart from liver failure, the portal vein which supplies inflow of blood to the liver of the patient was also underdeveloped and a jump graft was used to provide inflow to the newly transplanted liver making it a testimonial surgery, the hospital said in a release here on Thursday.
