District administration to launch mass awareness drive to improve sex ratio

Jalandhar, Jul 19 (UNI) In order to improve sex ratio effectively in the district, the administration on Friday decided to launch a mass awareness drive under Beti Bachao Beti Padao (BBBP) Scheme by sensitising the people.

Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh said that due to concrete efforts of officials, district has registered sex ratio at birth 915 (at birth) under BBBP scheme.

He said that in the next three months, the administration will hold awareness rallies, signature campaign, awareness seminars on POCSO Act, birth celebration of girls and tree plantation on the name of girls, felicitation of girls' students on first ten positions in all the sub-divisions of the district.

Besides this a BBBP gallery will be set up at the district administrative complex for which the program officer Amarjit Singh Bhullar had been asked to identify a suitable place in the complex.

He said that girls have proved their mettle in every field there is no such field which has to remain unconquered by them. He said that action plan has been prepared for the successful implementation of the awareness drive.

He said that girls are blessed with unbounded energy and innovative ideas, which they can use for bringing the much-needed change in the society.

The deputy commissioner urged the parents and families to fulfill their duties towards girl child from birth to providing higher education so that they can feel proud over achievements of their daughters. He called upon the girls to dream big, stand up for achieving the goal and act as an agent of change by realising their inbuilt power.
