Disruption in vaccine supply to Bangladesh will soon end: Indian High Commissioner

Disruption in vaccine supply to Bangladesh will soon end: Indian High Commissioner

Dhaka, Apr 22 (UNI) India has so far provided seven million Covid vaccines to Bangladesh and the remaining doses will be delivered very soon, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswamy said here on Thursday morning.
The High Commissioner said the delay in the delivery has occurred due to the Covid-19 second wave which has hit India.
However, he said India has increased the production of vaccines to overcome the crisis and they will be provided to Bangladesh soon.
Mr Doraiswamy hoped that the disruption in vaccine supply will not affect the relations between the two neighboring countries and underlined that India has agreed to supply more vaccines to Bangladesh keeping close ties in mind.
Bangladesh has signed a deal in November last year with the Serum Institute of India, the world’s biggest vaccine maker, for 30 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
India has also giver 1.2 million free doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine to Bangladesh in March during the two-day visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh to celebrate its 50th independence anniversary.
