Digambar Kamat reiterates demand for white paper on Mhadei water dispute

Panaji, Feb 27 (UNI) Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Thursday reiterated his demand of bringing out white paper on Mhadei water dispute to bring out all facts and figures.
In a tweet, Mr Kamat said,''The White Paper on Mhadei will bring out all facts & figures. Let people know from documents Who did What,When & Why for our Lifeline Mother Mhadei. "Doodh Ka Doodh, Paani Ka Paani Ho Jaaye". Hope @goacm will roll back his statement & accept our demand. #MhadeiJagor @INCGoa.''
On February 24, 2020, the united opposition comprising Congress, Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and independent MLA Rohan Khaunte had demanded that the government should bring out white paper on Mhadei issue including all the details, affidavits and prayers made in the court within a month. They had threatened to launch agitation if the government failed to fulfill their demand.
However on February 26, 2020, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant refused to bring out white paper saying he was confident of Goa winning the matter in the Supreme Court.
After Supreme Court allowing notification of Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal award given in 2018, on a request made by Karnataka government, politics in Goa over the dispute has gained momentum.
While Karnataka had termed the apex court's nod for notification of the award as a major victory, Goa Government and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) insisted that the nod was technical in nature and wouldn't affect its case.
The Goa Government on February 25, 2020, approached Supreme Court seeking interim relief to restrain Karnataka from carrying out any activity or construction over its project on River Mhadei.
