Devastating rain submerges low-lying areas in Kerala; claims over 324 lives

Kochi, Aug 17 (UNI) The devastating rain in Kerala since May 29 has so far claimed over 324 lives while over 82,442 people have been rescued from the water-logged places across the state.
The torrential rain that lashed the state since August 9 itself claimed over 164 lives in landslides as well as rain-related incidents, particularly from Idukki and Malappuram districts, sources said.
As the situation became worst during the past four days, Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard, NDRF along with police and fire and rescue forces got in action and rescued over 82, 442 people, who were stranded in the waterlogged places, particularly from Chalakkudi, Pathanamthitta, Chengannur and Alappuzha areas.
