New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) On a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the new Citizenship law will be written in 'golden letters' for the persecuted religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, the BJP on Wednesday said minorities in India will "continue to enjoy all the rights" enshrined in the Constitution.
'Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 has nothing to do with India’s minorities. This bill only addresses concerns of minorities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh," said a missive from the saffron party's official Twitter handle.
It also said - "Others who want to apply for Indian Citizenship will still be able to as per the existing provisions of the Constitution".
BJP Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Udupi-Chickmagalur in Karnataka Shobha Karandlaje also took to the micro blogging site to wonder why Muslims in Kerala were protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
She wrote: 'Millions of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis intruded India, None Protested!! When BJP goverment is bringing CAB to protect few hundreds of persecuted minorities of Muslim countries, there is a problem!!?"
Ms Karandlaje said, "Why Muslims of Kerala have a problem, when they are already Indians?'
Earlier in the day, addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting here, Prime Minister Modi said the new legislation will not only end religious prosecution faced by the religious minorities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh but will also end instability in the lives of these people.
Briefing reporters after the meet, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said Prime Minister also said new law will be written in the annals of history with golden letters.
Rajya Sabha took up the much talked about draft law for debate and consideration on Wednesday.
