Democratic Festival Returns: CM PS Tamang’s fate to be decided

Gangtok, Oct 18 (UNI )Countdown to By-Polls has begun. All the active Politicians are trying their best to secure a popular mandate in their favour.
The political parties in the field are ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) and Sikkim Republican Party. In addition, there are several Independents. Star campaigners from BJP, Union Youth and Sports Minister for State Kiren Rijiju are expecting to convince voters into a mandate.
By-Elections in the State are due on 21st October’19, in three constituencies as three candidates happened to win from 2 constituencies each and gave up one each.
Those fielded by political parties and others trying their luck in the field include 15 candidates. Ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang contesting from Pok Lok Kamrang constituency, South Sikkim. The only seat in the constituency has fallen vacant consequent upon former CM Pawan Chamling’s resignation from there, as per norms.
The Party has shared 2 seats with Bhartiya Janta Party after electoral alliance.
Therefore, Gangtok has Y T Lepcha, a BJP candidate and Martam Rumtek have Sonam Tshering Vechungpa, fielded by BJP, not opposed by SKM, due to recent alliance.
Sikkim Democratic Front Party has fielded Yadu Rai, a fresh face, from Poklok Kamrang. While Rinchen Ongmu, former Minister in Chamling cabinet has been fielded from Gangtok and Nuk Tshering Bhutia, from Martam Rumtek.
Hamro Sikkim Party has Bhaichung Bhutia, from Gangtok and Nima Tshering Lepcha from Martam Rumtek.
Sikkim Republican Party has fielded Yadu Kumar Rai from Pok Lok Kamrang, ST Lepcha from Gangtok and Mingma Tshering Sherpa Martam Rumtek.
Whereas the Independents contesting are, Passang Sherpa, Martam Rumtek, Dilley Namyal Gangtok, Karma Yenten Chankapa Independent Gangtok, Dr Mechung Bhutia, former MLA contesting Independently from Martam Rumtek.
The Voters getting ready for the democratic festival with 64 constituencies in the country going to Polls on the same day will be looking forward to the results on 24th October ’19.
Poklok Kamrang, with 15695 Voters, has 784 males and 7811 females. Gangtok has 16951 Voters, 6189 males and 5563 females. While Martam Rumtek constituency has 16951 Voters, out of that 8431 are males and 8520 are females. They are expected to vote for 3 seats of Sikkim Legislative Assembly having 32 total seats. Assembly boasts of 18 MLAs in SKM, SDF and 10 BJP through election and alliance cum shifting parties.

Shillong, April 15 (UNI) Vigilance by the police and paramilitary forces has been mounted along the Meghalaya-Assam inter-state boundary and the international border that the state shares with neighbouring Bangladesh in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April 19.
Meanwhile, in a significant joint operation conducted on Monday, the troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier and Meghalaya Police seized a huge quantity of dry betel nuts from the bordering area of the South Garo Hills district of the state.
