Delhi Govt ropes in actor Sonu Sood to endorse its "Desh Ke Mentor" initiative

New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) The Delhi government has appointed Hindi cinema actor Sonu Sood as a goodwill ambassador for its initiative 'Desh ke Mentor', Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced here on Friday.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said that Sood will become a career mentor for a few children who come from a humble background and do not get right guidance to pursue their field of choice.
"The world has evolved and there are a plethora of opportunities other than traditional ones. The children studying at Delhi government schools, who mostly come from marginalised sections of society, often do not get the right guidance to choose their careers. With our initiative (Desh Ke Mentor), we will appeal to people to become their career guide and help them in choosing further education aligned with their career aspirations," he said.
Kejriwal praised Sood for his contributions in helping thousands of migrant workers during the lockdown. "We couldn't have found a better person to endorse our programme," he said.
The actor said that he is fortunate to have associated with the Delhi government's initiative that will help him to connect with lakhs of children, who due to dearth of sufficient resources and guidance, do not get the right opportunity to pursue the profession they would like to.
"Every family has a person who acts as a career guide for its children. We need to extend such counselling guides beyond the family and help less fortunate children in our community to chase their dream. Such people can contribute a lot to nation-building by guiding the future of our country," he appealed.
Sharing his personal experience from the lockdown, Sood said that the right education is one area that requires huge uplift among the marginalised sections of society.
"While providing aid to the migrant workers amid the lockdown, we realised that lack of education is one of the major problems they face. We took it upon ourselves to teach 2,200 such children in the first lockdown and were able to help 20,000 more during the second lockdown. However, we felt this was not enough and when Arvind Kejriwal approached me for the project, I readily agreed. This platform would provide me with an opportunity to help lakhs of students who lose their vision and focus in the want of right aid and counselling," he added.
Meanwhile, the actor called Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia as visionaries who have revolutionised education in Delhi.
"When it comes to school education, Delhi emerges as the most sought-after place among the masses. The duo (Kejriwal and Sisodia) has brought an overhaul to the entire education system in recent years and its astounding success is being noticed in the entire country," he said while praising the Kejriwal government efforts.
However, Sood clarified that his association with the AAP government in Delhi is only limited to the project. "I have no political aspirations for now to join any party. I'm just here to support a good initiative," he said.
