Delhi Govt must come out with White Paper on manual scavenging: Vijender Gupta

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) Leader of Opposition, Vijender Gupta on Monday said that the tragic death of a manual scavenger Kishan when he entered a drain of irrigation and flood control department in Wazirabad area, highlights Delhi Government’s failure to ensure safety of manual scavengers and improve their working conditions, procurement of sewer cleansing machines and its inability to take action against negligent officers and contractors.
He demanded that the Government must come out with white paper on frequent deaths during manual cleansing of sewers and action taken by the Government.
The government must explain what has been done to prevent frequent deaths of scavengers and safai karmcharies during manual cleaning of sewer. It must also explain why no sewer cleaning machine has been procured. It must tell why no action has been so far against any official or contractor
