Delhi govt issues orders to install signages at 511 new auto stands

Delhi govt issues orders to install signages at 511 new auto stands

New Delhi, Jul 12 (UNI) Transport and Revenue minister Kailash Gahlot on Friday announced that Delhi Government has issued orders to install boards at 511 new auto stands so that stand location could be easily identified by commuters.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Gahlot said, “On people’s demand and to ease the problem of traffic congestion, Delhi government has earmarked a large number of stands for auto rickshaws in the city. Delhi government has now issued orders to the PWD, all DMs and other stakeholder agencies to install boards at the marked auto stands along-with other materials so that auto-stands could be easily identified by travellers."

“The total number of stands marked are 511. Now signages would be in place after the government has issued orders to the departments concerned,” he said.

The Minister further informed, “A committee was formed for the marking of the auto stands. The committee comprised all the agencies which regulate road traffic including the Delhi Police. It was ensured that the new auto stands don’t pose as a problem for the people or cause any kind of hindrance to the traffic movement.GPS facility too has been made available for easy location of the auto stands."

The new stands marked will be notified on the websites of Delhi Government, DTC, metro and other departments.

The location of the auto stands will also be notified on Google maps which will help people in finding the nearest one.

The information about these stands would also be shared on the Delhi Government’s 'Poocho' app, he added.

“Looking at the problem of traffic congestion, some new norms have also been put in place. At any given point of time, not more than five autos would be allowed to be at the stand, so that there is no hindrance to the traffic movement,” he informed.

Mr Gahlot also requested the traffic police to cooperate with the Delhi government in running these stands smoothly.

“The demand for marked auto stands was long pending and the government had been receiving requests through e-mails, letters and other platforms. These requests were made to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Thereafter, the Chief Minister pushed the project and got it notified on priority,” the minister added.
