New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Stating that education is an important parameter for inclusive growth, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday said Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has taken number of initiatives to improve the education sector.
In his address to the Budget session of the Delhi Assembly, the LG said,”investing in education plays a key role in meeting social development objectives.”
He said a new curriculum-‘Happiness Curriculum’ was started in all government schools.
The LG said pre-primary and primary classes have been given a big boost with the introduction of nursery classes in 149 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas.
“For the first time, 4178 classroom libraries have been setup in primary section of Government schools with the objective of inculcating reading habit among children at an early age,” the LG said.
“To strengthen the school infrastructure, construction of 31 new school buildings have been started,” he said.
The LG said that the government has decided to increase cash incentives to outstanding sportspersons of Delhi for their achievements in Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games including Para Games.
He said Delhi has achieved significant economic progress and the contribution of the national capital to the GDP of the nation was 4.14 per cent during 2018-19.
“The per capita income of Delhi in 2018-19 is estimated at Rs 3,65,529 as compared to Rs 3,28,985 in 2017-18, indicating a growth of 11.11 per cent,” he added.
