Delhi court asks Karti Chidambaram to file reply in Aircel Maxis Money Laundering Case

Delhi court asks Karti Chidambaram to file reply in Aircel Maxis Money Laundering Case

New Delhi, Sep 10 (UNI) A Delhi Court on Monday asked Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, to file his reply on an Enforcement Directorate's plea seeking his custodial interrogation in the Aircel Maxis Money Laundering case by September 18.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is also probing how P Chidambaram as Finance Minister in 2006 granted a Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval to a foreign firm, when only the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) was empowered to do it.
Senior Congress Leader P Chidambaram's role is under scanner of CBI and ED in the Rs 3,500 crore Aircel Maxis deal and the INX Media case involving Rs 305 crore.
The ED is probing the PMLA case after taking a cue from the CBI FIR.
The ED has questioned P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram on various occasions and has alleged that Karti was not cooperating with the investigation, which was one of the conditions imposed on him while granting him interim relief of bail.
The ED submitted that Karti was showing irritation and sometimes even anger while being interrogated by the ED officials in the case.
The court had extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Chidambaram and Karti in the Aircel-Maxis cases filed by the CBI and the ED for the alleged offences of corruption and Money Laundering respectively till October 8.
The ED is probing a separate money laundering case in the Aircel Maxis matter and a chargesheet was filed against Karti by the agency on July 13.
CBI Special Judge OP Saini today after hearing the plea on behalf of ED to cancel the interim relief from arrest granted to Karti asked the counsel for Karti to file his response by September 18.
