Delhi Cong to join street vendors protest on Jan 21

New Delhi, Jan 19 (UNI) The street vendors of Delhi will hold demonstrations outside the offices of the three MCDs at the Civic Centre and in East Delhi, and in front of the NDMC headquarters on January 21, with the support of the Delhi Congress to protest against failure of Street Vendors’ Livelihood Protection Act (2014).
Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan, here on Saturday, Former Delhi Ministers Mangat Ram Singhal and Ramakant Goswami said due to the failure of the BJP Government at the Centre and in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi to implement the Street Vendors’ Livelihood Protection Act (2014), passed by Parliament when the Congress-led UPA Government was in power at the Centre, the lives of nearly five lakh street vendors of Delhi have been in the doldrums as they have to face constant harassment from the MCD, NDMC and Delhi Police officials to ply their trade.
They blamed Arvind Kejriwal Government for the worsening plight of the street vendors as despite being at the helm of the Delhi Government and at NDMC, as chairman of the body, Mr Kejriwal has not done anything to implement the Street Vendors’ Act.
