The luggage manufacturing unit that caught fire, was suspected to have been running illegally in a residential area.
This also raises questions over the civic bodies, as to how was it possible that the factory was running without their knowledge. There are several other such units said to be running in the vicinity, which may also be without clearances from the civic and safety agencies.
It is being said that the cause of the fire, prima facie, seems to be a short circuit, however, the exact reason will be ascertained after probe.
The deaths were mainly due to inhalation of smoke, rather than burn injures, a doctor of the government hospital said, where the victims were shifted.
The Anaj Mandi is situated near the Lady Reading Nursing Health School and an old famous Cinema hall called Filmistan, which is non-functional now.
