Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman visited Nathula Pass

Gangtok, Oct 7 (UNI) Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman visited Nathula, 55 kms from
here, on Sino-Indian border in the morning today.
Defence Minister Sitaraman, returned here in the evening. She interacted with the officers,
soldiers of Chinese Army and of course the Indian Army, at an altitude of 14,400 ft at the Nathula
pass. She is the Second Indian women leader after late PM Indira Gandhi to visit Indo-Chinese
Border, Nathula.
The Union Minister is expected to leave for another NE State on October 8.
The Union Minister is staying at Rajbhawan. She met with CM Pawan Chamling at his official residence. During the meet, she raised the issue of Army land also urged State Govt to solve the
land problem between Forest Department and Indian Army.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, highlighted the problem faced by State every now and then,
due to blocade on National Highway, also causing economic loss. He requested Union Govt for
taking steps to accelerate construction of an alternative road linking Sikkim to rest of the Country.
