Chennai, Dec 7 (UNI) The Well Mark Low Pressure area of the Bay intesified
into a Deep Depression and it will further concentrate into a Cyclonic Storm
named 'Mandous", name given by UAE this evening and reach North Tamil
Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coasts tomorrow
morning.
With the North coastal districts of Tamil Nadu is expected have very to very
hevy rainfall for the next three days, the State government has geared up its
entire machinery to meet any exigency, directed all the District Collectors to
be in a state of readiness and deployed NDRF Teams to six districts.
The State Government has opened more than 5,000 relief camps in all the
districts to house people evacuated from low lying areas and provide them
with all basic facilities including food, drinking water and healthcare.
A round the clock control room was also opened to monitor the impact of
the rainfall, which was expected to be extremely heavy for the next two
days.
Met office said the Deep Depression over Southeast and adjoining Southwest
Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during
the past six hours and lay centred over Southwest and adjoining Southeast
Bay of Bengal about 500 km east of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), about 630 km
east-southeast of Jaffna (Sri Lanka), about 690 km east-southeast of Karaikal
and about 770 km eastsoutheast of Chennai.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further gradually
into a Cyclonic Storm today evening and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal off
North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts by
tomorrow morning.
It will continue to move west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu,
Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during subsequent
48 hours.
