Deep depression to intensify as severe cyconic storm, North TN coasts to get rains

Chennai, Dec 15 (UNI) Heavy rains, accompanied by squally winds,
were likely to lash North Tamil Nadu and coast Puducherry as the
deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal would intenisfy into
a severe cyclonic storm during the next 36 hrs.
Met office on Saturday said it moved west-northwestwards and lay
centred over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal about
470 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 730 km east-south
east of Chennai and 930 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam.
It is very likely to intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during the next
12 hrs and into a Severe Cyclonic Storm in subsequent 24 hrs.
It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and cross the Andhra
Pradesh coast between Ongole and Kakinada on Monday afternoon.
Under its influence, rainfall would occur at many places with heavy
falls at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining
areas of North coastal Tamil Nadu from today evening.
Squally winds, with speed reaching 45-55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph,
was likely to commence along and off Andhra Pradesh, North Tamilnadu
and Puducherry coasts from this evening.
Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph prevails
over southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal. It is very likely
to increase gradually and become gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph
and gusting to 80 kmph over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay
of Bengal and 80-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph over westcentral and
adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal for two days from tomorrow.
The sea condition was very rough over southeast and adjoining south
west Bay of Bengal.
The sea condition was very likely to be high over southwest and
adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and high to very high over
westcentral and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.
It is very likely to become rough to very rough along and off south
Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast and fishermen were
advised not to venture into the sea in these areas and also North
Tamilnadu and Puducherry coasts for two days from tomorrow.
Those, who were out in deep sea areas, were advised to return
to the coast.
Meanwhile, people of Chennai woke up to overcast skies with
blustery winds, that saw trees swayed.
The sun time and again peeped through the grey skies and the city
and suburbs were expected to get light to moderate showers from
tomorrow morning.
