Debutant Manav Suthar earns Test cap as India bat first

Mullanpur, June 6 (UNI) India’s debutant spinner Manav Suthar described his Test cap moment as a “dream realised” as India opted to bat first in the one-off Test against Afghanistan here on Saturday.
India captain Shubman Gill said the decision to bat first was influenced by the hot and humid conditions, adding that the surface is expected to slow down as the match progresses. He also underlined the importance of settling combinations during the ongoing home Test season and said it was a privilege to lead at home.
For Manav Suthar, however, the day marked a personal milestone as he was handed his Test debut in India’s playing XI. The young spinner comes into the side as part of India’s long-term spin planning in home conditions, with the management backing him alongside established names.
