Death toll from torrential rain rises to 72 in Japan

Tokyo, Jul 13 (UNI) The death toll from floods that have hit Japan for over a week has risen to 72, informed the national broadcaster NHK on Monday.

NHK also said that the search for 13 missing people is currently ongoing.

Approximately 14,000 houses have been damaged due to these floods and landslides caused by torrential rains in 21 prefectures across Japan, most of the damage was caused in the Kyushu island.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe paid a visit to the Kumamoto prefecture on Kyushu on Monday to assess the damage. Abe pledged to assist local authorities in disaster recovery.

B’desh: 'Deaths in crossfire' in name of anti-drug campaign galore

Dhaka, Aug 9 (UNI) Many people allegedly died in crossfire in the name of anti-drug campaign, though the government of Bangladesh has always claimed that its law enforcers do not work outside the law.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite force, is one of the law enforcing agencies in the country.
A 35-year-old man named Suleiman (pseudonym) lived in a slum in Dhaka with his eight-year-old daughter. According to his family, he struggled to collect his daily meal.
Suleiman's family told Amnesty International, a UK-based human rights group, that he had called a family member before he was killed in a so-called gunfight, that police had demanded a bribe of BDT 20,000 in exchange for his release.
