Srinagar, Nov 28 (UNI) Around 2.34 per cent votes were polled till 0900 hrs on Saturday in 25 constituencies during the first phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections amid tight security in Kashmir valley.
An official spokesperson said that the highest voting percentage was recorded in Srinagar with 9.94 per cent polling. Meanwhile, the lowest 0.64 per cent votes were polled in Pulwama in south Kashmir, where internet has been suspended for security reasons.
“Kupwara has recorded voting percentage of 2.34 per cent, Bandipora 3.73 per cent, Baramulla 1.51 per cent, Ganderbal 2.56 per cent, Budgam 3.16 per cent,” he said.
He said Shopian recorded 7.56 per cent voting, Kulgam 5.13 per cent and Anantnag 2.63 per cent till 0900 hrs.
These polls hold significance as they are the first electoral exercise XXXXXXXXXXXX pickup from Para 3 of DR 3 (ELECTION-JK-DDC).
