Srinagar, Nov 28 (UNI) Around 17.70 per cent votes were polled till 1100 hrs on Saturday in 25 constituencies during the first phase of District Development Council (DDC) elections amid tight security in Kashmir valley.
An official spokesperson said that the highest voting percentage was recorded in Shopian with 29.34 per cent polling till 1100 hrs. Meanwhile, the lowest 3.51 per cent votes were polled in Pulwama in south Kashmir, where internet has been suspended for security reasons.
“Kupwara has recorded voting percentage of 13.49 per cent, Bandipora 17.874 per cent, Baramulla 12.19 per cent, Ganderbal 23.14 per cent, Budgam 28.47 per cent and Srinagar 10.64,” he said.
He said Kulgam recorded 14.91 per cent and Anantnag 23.46 per cent till 1100 hrs.
These polls hold significance as they are the first electoral exercise XXXXXXXXXXXX pickup from Para 3 of DR 3 (ELECTION-JK-DDC).
