DC bans sale of China string in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, Jan 3 (UNI) District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday banned the sale of synthetic thread (China String) in the district.
In an order issued here, Mr Sharma banned the sale, storage and use of China string to fly kites in the district. He said strict legal action would be taken against the violators. Several children had become victim of synthetic thread, made of sharp plastic and glass material. The order will remain effective till June 30, this year.
The National Green Tribunal had already in a verdict announced in July last year, banned the sale, storage and use of China string for flying kites, terming it to be a good conductor of electricity, increasing the probability of detached paste (manja) strings stuck in power lines, electrocuting kite flyers and passers-by coming into contact with it, posing a threat to the lives of birds, animals and humans.
