New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) The All India Tennis Association has sought security assurance from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) for the players and other staff for the Davis Cup tie to be held in September in Pakistan.
In a letter to ITF Executive Director Justine Albert, All India Tennis Association (AITA) General Secretary Hironmoy Chatterjee has asked for a thorough security check before the event in Islamabad in view of the tensed relation between Pakistan and India after New Delhi changed the status quo and turned Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
“The Indian government has asked us to follow the Olympic Charter. AITA has also told the government and the players that the ITF is taking full responsibility for the safety of the players. We believe you that you must have checked security in Islamabad but the current situation has changed after that. We would like to request ITF to conduct a thorough security check. We will wait for the final proof from your side regarding security', Chatterjee said.
