Daily count drops by nearly 15k, 1053 more deaths

New Delhi, Sep 22 (UNI) The country on Tuesday witnessed a drop of nearly 15,000 COVID-19 cases, clocking in 75,083 fresh patients during the past 24 hours, as compared to around 90,000 cases, being registered daily, for a coupe of days.
The COVID-19 count reached 55,62,663, including 9,75,861 active cases, and 44,97,867 cured/discharged/migrated patients.
On the other hand, as many as 1,01,468 new recoveries have been registered in the past 24 hours in the country, sustaining the trend of very high number of single day recoveries for the past four consecutive days.
With this, the total number of recoveries stand at 44,97,867 and has resulted in the Recovery Rate touching 80.86 per cent, an official statement from the Health ministry said.
Presently, the country carries an active case load of 9,75,861, which was over 10 lakh till Monday.
The total number of the cured and discharged cases are now nearing 45 lakh-mark, with the figure currently standing at 44,97,868.
Meanwhile, the death toll now stands at 88,935, after 1,053 more lives were claimed by the virus since Monday.
In terms of percentage, the active cases were 17.54 per cent, recovered at 80.86 per cent, and the deaths at 1.6 per cent.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 9,33,185 samples were tested in the past 24 hours, taking the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Sunday to 6,53,25,779.
Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state with 916348 total cases, including 275017 active cases, 33015 recoveries and 344 deaths.
Karnataka remains at second spot with 4,23,377 cases, including 95,354 active cases, 8145 recoveries and 122 deaths.
Andhra Pradesh holds third spot with total 551821 cases, including 74518 active cases and 51 deaths.
Maharashtra continues to lead with 31.5 per cent new recovered patients. Andhra Pradesh contributed more than 10,000 to the single day recoveries.
The country's landmark achievement of recording the maximum number of recoveries has positioned it as the top country globally and is a testimony of the Centre-led proactive and graded strategy of Test, Track, Treat.
The Ministry of Health, in active collaboration with AIIMS, New Delhi, has been conducting the 'National e-ICU on COVID-19 Management' exercise, which handholds ICU doctors of State/UT hospitals through the Centers of Excellence.
So far, 20 such National e-ICUs have been held, covering 278 hospitals of 28 States/UTs across the country.
The Centre has been deputing multi-disciplinary teams to support and assist efforts of the State/UT Governments.
A regular high-level review has ensured adequate availability of medical oxygen in hospitals and health facilities across the country. These have together played a critical intervention role in the country's high recoveries and maintained low Case Fatality Rate (CFR), which currently stands at 1.59 per cent.
Globally, the United States continues to remain the most-infected, followed by India and Brazil.
As per the global data, there are currently 31,032,045 confirmed cases worldwide. The United States, India and Brazil have the highest numbers of cases among countries, over six million, five million, and four million, respectively.
