Cyril Ramaphosa elected president of South Africa

Cape Town, Feb 15 (UNI) Former anti-apartheid activist turned successful businessman Cyril Ramaphosa was elected president of South Africa on Thursday after Jacob Zuma stepped down under pressure from the ruling African National Congress late on Wednesday night.
Ramaphosa, 65, will be president until elections next year.
"I seek to serve with humility, faithfulness and dignity," Ramaphosa said on his election. "I will try to work very hard not to disappoint the people of South Africa."South Africa's MPs had gathered in Parliament to elect him as the country's new president. "There are no further nominations, only one candidate has been nominated and it is in order. I declare the Hon. Ramaphosa duly elected as the President of South Africa," said Chief justice Mogoeng Mogoeng.
