Cyclone 'Gaja' to cross TN coast between Cuddalore, Pamban on Nov 15

Chennai, Nov 12 (UNI) The Cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ over Westcentral and
adjoining East-central and South-east Bay of Bengal was moving towards
Tamil Nadu and was expected to cross the coast between Cuddalore and
Pamban on the forenoon of November 15.
A bulletin issued by the IMD here on Monday said the storm moved
south-southwestwards and lay centred over Westcentral and adjoining
Eastcentral and Southeast Bay of Bengal about 720 km east-northeast
of Chennai and 800 km east-northeast of Nagappattinam in Tamil Nadu.
'It is very likely to move west-southwestwards and intensify further into
a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours and maintain the intensity
during subsequent 24 hours', it said.
The bulletin said thereafter, while moving west-southwestwards, it was
likely to weaken gradually and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Cuddalore
and Pamban as a Cyclonic Storm during the forenoon of November 15.
The bulletin also scaled down the Cyclone Alert for north Tamil Nadu and
Puducherry coasts from red to Yellow.
Under its influence, rainfall would commence at most places, with heavy
falls at isolated places, over north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining districts
of south Tamil Nadu from November 14 evening.
It said rainfall would occur at most places with heavy to very heavy at a few
places and extremely heavy falls (excess of 20 cm) at isolated places over
north Tamil Nadu and adjoining district of south coastal Tamil Nadu on
November 15.
It said rainfall would also occur at most places with heavy to very heavy falls
at isolated places over remaining parts of south Tamil Nadu.
