Cyber security report: 87 pc of Indian respondents victims of a security breach during past year

New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) Barracuda, a trusted partner and leading provider of cloud-enabled security solutions, released key findings from a report titled “The state of network security in 2021” on Wednesday.
Commissioned by Barracuda, the research surveyed 750 IT decision makers globally who are responsible for their organization’s networking, public cloud, and security to get their perspectives on cloud adoption, working from home, security concerns, and a variety of issues and challenges related to cyber security risks.
The research indicates that network breaches, ransom ware attacks, and remote-work challenges underscore the need for cloud-native Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) deployments.
Research results from Indian IT sector show some interesting and some alarming trends. 87 pc of Indian respondents said their organization has been the victim of a security breach at least once during the past 12 months, and 79 pc of those surveyed said their organization has been the victim of at least one ransom ware attack during the past 12 months.
In India, companies with staff working predominantly from home had a higher network security breach rate (91pc), compared to companies with staff working predominantly in the office 86 pc.
On an average, only 7 pc of employees at Indian businesses surveyed currently work in the office all the time.
93 pc of Indian respondents with company-issued devices share their home internet connection with other members of their household, hence the risk of breach increases.
71 pc of Indian companies with all apps in the public cloud have already deployed SD-WAN, twice as many as companies with only a few apps in the public cloud (38pc).
75 pc of Indian companies with all apps in the public cloud have deployed Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), while just 38 pc of companies with only a few apps in the public cloud have deployed it.
On average, Indian respondents said 64 pc of their traffic is directed to public cloud providers.
Commenting on the report, Murali Urs, Country Manager, Barracuda Networks India said, “While organisations are adapting to the hybrid approach thinking about both working from anywhere and application hosting, they continue to experience a high level of network breaches and facing ongoing connectivity and security challenges. However, realising that moving to SaaS applications and the public cloud can improve both the user experience and security, they have started embracing new SASE technologies.”
