CWRC asks Karnataka to release 3k cusecs water

Bengaluru, Sep 26 (UNI) The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) on Tuesday ordered Karnataka government to release 3,000 cusecs of water, instead of 5,000 cusecs daily to Tamil Nadu for the next 18 days from September 28.
The order comes in the wake of pro-Kannada and pro-farmers outfits staging protests in Bengaluru and Mandya district, asking Congress government in Karnataka not to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
In a virtual meeting held by CWRC today, Tamil Nadu demanded release of 12,500 cusecs of water, but was objected by Karnataka, arguing that it is not a position to do the needful because of 53 per cent rain deficit and drought in 195 talukas.
