Hyderabad, May 12 (UNI) Deepak Chahar's brilliant spell of 3 for 26 restricted Mumbai Indians to 149/8 runs in the stipulated 20 overs against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2019 final here at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.
After winning toss and opting to bat first, MI openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock were off to a solid start. The opening duo of Rohit-de Kock smashed 20 runs in CSK's Deepak Chahar second over and MI were 30/0 in 3 overs.
However, in order to score freely, both Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma departed in quick succession and MI scored 45 runs after the end of powerplay.
MI openers had a partnership of 45 runs in which Rohit scored 15 runs (1 four, 1 six) and Quinton de Kock scored 29 runs (4 sixes) respectively.
After openers' departure, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan tried to recover and stiched a partnership of 37 runs.
During the middle overs, CSK bowlers put brakes on MI batters scoring runs and didn't allow them to score freely.
MI had a brilliant start but they couldn't continue the momentum and lost wickets one after another.
However, some late flourish by Hardik Pandya (16 runs) and Kieron Pollard (41 runs ) with 3 fours and 3 sixes powered MI to a total 149/8 of runs in stipulated 20 overs.
The duo of Pollard-Pandya stitched a parternship of 39 runs for the sixth wicket.
Pollard who stayed till the end remained not out along with Jasprit Bumrah smashed Bravo for two consecutive fours in the last over taking MI to a fighting total 149/8.
For CSK, Deepak Chahar was the most successful bowler taking 3 wickets, while Shardul Thakur and Imran Tahir claimed two wickets each.
Meanwhile, CSK captain MS Dhoni overtook KKR captain Dinesh Karthik to become the most successful wicketkeeper in the history of the IPL after having 132 dismissals .
