Crucial monsoon session of UP Assy from tomorrow: Supplementary budget, GST to be passed
Lucknow, Aug 21(UNI) The crucial Monsoon session of the state Assembly, which begins here tomorrow, is all set to be a stormy one with opposition aiming to corner the Akhilesh Yadav government over a host of issues, including law and order and corruption. A week-long assembly session, which is slated to end on August 30, is set to approve a whopping supplementary budget to the tune of around Rs 25,000 crores as well as give its assent to the Constitutional Amendment Bill of Goods and Services Tax (GST). It is likely to approve some ordinances on setting up private universities besides an Amendment bill to hike the salaries of Chief Minister and his council of ministers will also be taken up. The supplementary budget is expected to be tabled on August 23, the first working day, as the opening day would be reserved for obituary references, and it will be approved on the next day. The GST Bill would be approved on August 24. However, the opposition particularly, the BJP and BSP would be on their toes along with the Congress and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) members during the entire session, with raising several people oriented issues like law and order, corruption, non-development, floods, dalit atrocities non-payment of dues of the cane farmers along with others. As this could be the last session before the assembly polls hence, the members would address their constituency matters to get more attention from the government. However, this time, the scenario is set to be interesting in the House with more than a dozen MLAs having switched political allegiance. The Vidhan Sabha will have a new Leader of Opposition in Gayacharan Dinkar as the earlier LOP Swami Prasad Maurya has joined the BJP. Many legislators from Congress, BSP and SP too have switched sides. Source said that a legal process for disqualification of these members is pending with Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey and a decision is likely to be taken very soon. UP Assembly Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey has convened an all party meeting this afternoon where Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav would request the opposition leaders for smooth conduct of the House. After the all party meeting, the business advisory committee of the assembly would meet to finalise the agenda of the House. All the political parties have issued a whip asking all their members to attend the session with some of the parties holding dinner diplomacy tonight. MORE UNI MB SV RK1211
