Lucknow, June 7 (UNI) Dreaded criminal of western Uttar Pradesh Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva was shot dead by an assailant inside the district court premises while being taken for hearing in a case in police custody in the Kaisarbagh area of the state capital on Wednesday, a senior police officer said here.
Taking serious note of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into the incident. The three-member SIT, which includes Additional Director General of Police (Technical) Mohit Agarwal, Joint Police Commissioner (Law and Order), Lucknow Nilabja Choudhary and IG Ayodhya Praveen Kumar, has been directed to complete its probe within a week's time.
After inspecting the spot, Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that firing took place inside the district court in which a criminal Sanjeev Jeeva got injured. "Two head constables, including Kamlesh and Lal Mohammad were injured in the incident," he said.
