Kathmandu, Sep 11 (UNI) The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) halted protest programmes at hospitals, planned to start on Tuesday, following assurance by Health Minister Upendra Yadav that its demands will be fulfilled.
The Association will be forced to come up with further protest programmes if the the newly-enforced Criminal Code related to medical negligence and recklessness by doctors is not amended as per the commitment made by the Ministry of Health and population, a report in Nepal daily the Kathmandu Post, quoting NMA General Secretary Dr Lochan Karki, said.
Government authorities, including the Health Minister, on Monday assured the NMA that the amendment proposal had been forwarded as per demands of umbrella body of the doctors in the country.
Dr Karki said the medicos on September 3 had postponed stir by a week after an agreement with the government on amending the provisions of the newly-enforced Criminal Code.
