Creative ideas & functional solutions to fore at Sweden-India mobility Hackathon on safe and sustainable transportation

Kolkata, Mar 05 (UNI) Creative solutions and functional ideas vied for the winning slot at the
42-hour Sweden-India Mobility Hackathon: Changing the way we move, organised by the
Swedish Institute, the Embassy of Sweden, and the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai.
The Hack was aimed to design, test and execute ideas for the future – with a particular focus
on mobility. The winning teams will get an opportunity to collaborate with major Swedish and
Indian companies/ institutes to further develop their ideas and implement the solutions.
Over 500 participants - students, entrepreneurs, innovation enthusiasts, developers, designers, creative professionals, and mobility experts - from across Sweden and India worked closely with
more than 76 mentors to developed solutions to the future challenges of sustainable mobility. The
six predetermined challenges were Lethal accidents in traffic, Safe transport, Sustainable transport, Emissions from the traffic sector, Infrastructure for connected vehicle, and Sustainable logistics.
A 48-member jury, comprising experts under the specified challenge areas, selected winners who came together digitally from different geographies – from Gothenburg, Pune, Chennai, Delhi and Växjö, to name a few!
Klas Molin, Ambassador of Sweden to India, said: “I would like to thank the Swedish Institute, all our partners and the participants for making the Sweden-India Mobility Hackathon a resounding success! The Hack provides an opportunity for creative and innovative young people to take the
lead and find solutions to one of greatest challenges of today and tomorrow. I am honoured that Hon’ble Minister Gadkari, a friend of Sweden, and a strong proponent of road safety and
sustainable transportation is present to encourage the winners of today’s Hackathon!”
Speaking at the Award Ceremony, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said,
“It gives immense pleasure to send the message on the occasion of the event Sweden India Mobility Hackathon changing the way we move organized by the Swedish institute. The mobility Hackathon
is an innovative initiative which reflects how Sweden and India can continue to work together and collaborate not just at a government level but with a broad range of stakeholders."
The Swedish Institute was in the lead on the Hackathon, with support from several Swedish and Indian partners including major companies, startups, incubators, research institutes, innovation
cells, road safety organizations and companies in sectors of sustainability, automotive and transport.
The participants had access to a unique network of major Swedish and Indian companies and institutes and worked to solve questions based on open data sources. The winners pitched their ideas and received guidance from the mentors to further develop, realize and implement their solutions. Institutions and universities also invited them to join as key partners in recruiting talent, providing guidance and supporting co-creation, innovation and sustainability. Professors, leaders, engineering, transport and creative experts were taken on board as Mentors whose aim was to
guide and support their assigned teams on the mobility challenges.
The six winning projects were under each category are:
Category: Lethal road accidents (Altair: Safety by Objects)
Team “Pedestrian Safety” comprising of Harshad Sawant (team lead), Venugopal K G, Jeffrin Samuel, Vamika Aggarwa offered Pedestrian Road Cross Assist System as a solution to “Safety
by Objects”
Category: The key to sustainable future (Volvo: Sustainable Future)
The team “Energy for Society” involving Shrikant Mali (Team Lead), Steffy James, Tanmayi Kantekar, Sourav Ghosh offered Super-Fast Modular Charger and Intelligent Battery Management System for Electric vehicles as the winning solution to “Sustainable future.”
Category: Safe Transport (IKEA: VIP Truck Drivers)
“The Innovators” including team members Krishna Kumar C (Team Lead), Santosh Shet, Stanly Chacko, and Venkat Balasubramanian offered The Accident Predictor as a solution to safe transportation by collecting historic accident data from the authorities and alerting the drivers
about accident prone roads.
Category: Emissions in traffic (Google: It’s in the air)
The team “Planet Saviours” comprising team members Shalini, Kashika, Jaimin, Raghav and Darshan offered the winning solution to emissions in traffic with “Smart Co2 Calculator for Smart Vehicles… Better Way Forward.”
Category: Sustainable Logistics (SCEI: Fast and Greenious)
The team “The Right Truck” including team members Kushal Chinchanikar (team lead), Gaurav Thakur, Prabuddha Tamhane and Pavitr Kochar offered a great solution to sustainable logistics
by finding “The best suited truck for a particular transport journey.”
Category: Infrastructure for connected devices (Ericsson: It’s all connected)
The team “The Insight & Co” with their internationally distributed team members Balaji Nagaraj Kumar, Chaithu M, Joshyka Jothi Singaaravadivelu and Deepasundar Ponnusamy offered a solution to “infrastructure for connected devices through DATATOR”, which is addressing the importance of data integrity, and putting the driver in control of it.
