New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today released the Congress party’s manifesto for the Punjab assembly polls which promises crackdown on drugs and other mafias, free houses to homeless, Dalits/SCs/OBCs, one job in every family, time-bound steps to bolster employment and revive agriculture and industry, ending of VVIP culture and bringing the marginalized and minorities back into the societal mainstream. Releasing the manifesto at a function where Punjab PCC chief Amarinder Singh, Congress incharge for Punjab Asha Kumari, AICC general secretary Ambika Soni and former Deputy Chief Minister of the state Rajender Kaur Bhattal were also present, Dr Manmohan singh said the present Akali Dal-BJP Government had failed to realise the tremendous potential of Punjab because of its mismanagement. Describing Capt Amarinder Singh as a leader with great vision, Dr Singh said Capt Singh's leadership was badly needed at this time. ‘’Punjab is a State with tremendous unexploited potential. This potential has not been exploited because of mismanagement. Earlier also Punjab was a victim of terrorism. And it has inflicted great deal of damage on the economy and the polity of Punjab. The challenge before Punjab is to rise above all this din & recognize that the people of Punjab need a better tomorrow. This Election Manifesto is a forward looking visionary document, which promises the people that we will undo the damage done to the Punjab economy by the State Government in the last ten years,’’Dr Singh said. Talking about the manifesto, Dr Singh said,’’ It points to tremendous potential of the State in terms of Agriculture, Manufacturing, Services, Infrastructure, Social Services, in all. These areas in the present set up has not been able to make adequate use of the potential that exists in Punjab..’’ Describing Capt Amarinder Singh as a leader with great vision, Dr Singh said, ’’Capt Amarinder's leadership is badly needed at this time because in him we have a leader of great vision. In Capt Amarinder we have a leader who has a wealth of experience. His commitment to the cause of development of Punjab is unrivaled. I believe that Punjab is in for better times under the leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh. This better tomorrow will see development of the State both in the economy and management of the polity.
