CPM launches ‘Tamirabarani Satyagraha’ against supply of water to PepsiCo, Coca Cola

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu Apr 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) today launched the “Tamirabarani River Satyagraha” against supplying the river water to multinational PepsiCo and Coca Cola soft drink units at the Industrial Growth Centre (IGC) of the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) at Gangaikondan in this Southern district of the State.

“The Satyagraha would continue till the State government scraps the agreement on giving huge quantity of river water to the soft drink companies at a throwaway price,” said G.Ramakrishnan, State Secretary of CPM while addressing a demonstration on the banks of Tamirabarani river at Sindhupoondurai village, here this evening.
