CPM blood donation camp sets on fire, two injured in Tripura

Agartala, Nov 13 (UNI) The opposition CPM in Tripura issued an ultimatum to arrest the culprits within 24 hours who allegedly attacked a blood donation camp being organized by party’s youth front DYFI on Saturday at Barpathari area of Belonia in South Tripura.
The DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb alleged that BJP Mandal president of Rajnagar constituency Ranjit Sarkar a group of BJP miscreants attacked the blood donation camp and looted the medical equipment, destroyed the food items and burnt down the bed-sheets and nursing materials brought for the camp.
Two blood donors identified as Shibu Biswas and Sadhan Pal were beaten up badly in the camp. Another CPM worker Kamalesh Biswas was stabbed in Arya Colony area afterwards when he protested against the attack on the blood donation camp, he alleged.
“The specific case against BJP leaders Ranjit Sarkar, Bimal Pal, Sadhan Shil, Sajal Biswas, Manik Majumdar and Binod Sen was registered with P R Bari police station for leading the attack but police yet to take any step, rather indirectly threatening the complainants for further trouble if peruse the case,” Deb alleged.
He said Chief Minister is a doctor, holding the portfolio of health and has been urging people to donate blood to manage the crisis. Responding to the call, DYFI organized the blood donation camp, as the local hospital is facing a serious shortage of blood and patients are suffering and heavily armed BJP cadres launched an attack.
“If CM fails to arrest the culprits immediately, it will be clear that the attack was carried out with his involvement and we shall launch a statewide movement to unmask the camouflaging face of BJP leaders,” Deb threatened.
According to sources, when a vehicle from the blood transfusion council reached the spot, the miscreants believed to be BJP supporters stopped the vehicle and prevented it from reaching the camp. The miscreants allegedly manhandled the doctors and other health professionals and asked them to return.
Later, the miscreants launched an unprovoked attack on the blood donation venue and set afire the arrangements and the food items kept for the blood donors had been also looted by the miscreants, sources claimed.
However, P R Bari police said they have registered the case and launched an investigation into the allegations and the law will take its own course as per law. They denied the allegation of threatening complainants and said police are not involved in politics, and always treat criminals as criminals.
