CPI opposes LPG price hike, demands immediate rollback

Patna, June 7 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday opposed the recent increase in domestic LPG cylinder prices, describing it as anti-people and demanding its immediate rollback.
State CPI secretary Ramnaresh Pandey said the Rs 29 increase in the price of domestic cooking gas had added to the burden on consumers already facing rising living costs. He claimed that it was the second LPG price hike in the past three months and had pushed the cost of a domestic cylinder in Bihar to around Rs 1,040.
Pandey said the increase would particularly affect low- and middle-income households. He alleged that rising prices of LPG, petrol and diesel were adversely impacting farmers, labourers, small traders and ordinary consumers.

Odisha panel clears premature release of Dara Singh, convicted in Staines murder case

Bhubaneswar, Jul 14 (UNI) The Odisha State Sentence Review Board (OSSRB) has recommended the premature release of Dara Singh, the life convict in the 1999 murder of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two minor sons in Odisha's Keonjhar district, citing his "good behaviour" in prison.
The recommendation was made during the Board's meeting earlier this month, where it reviewed the cases of eligible life convicts for possible premature release.
