CPI-M stalls Yechury's re-election to RS, Bengal Cong proposes Meira for Upper House

New Delhi, Jul 25 (UNI) In a significant development, the West Bengal Congress unit has recommended to the party high command that the party fields former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar as a candidate for ensuing Rajya Sabha elections from the state.
Ms Kumar, who was defeated in the July 17 Presidential poll by Ram Nath Kovind of NDA, is likely to get endorsement of the Left and even Trinamool Congress, a senior Bengal Congress leader told UNI here tonight.
In related development, the CPI-M today decided not to field party general secretary Sitaram Yechury, who retires on August 18, for the Upper House.
