CPI(M) opposed power privatization initiative of Tripura govt

CPI(M) opposed power privatization initiative of Tripura govt

Agartala, Aug 14 (UNI) The opposition CPI(M) protested against the decision of ruling BJP-IPFT coalition government to handover the operation and management of at least five power divisions of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) to private companies and demanded to cancel the deal immediately.
The party in a statement alleged since the establishment of TSECL, the state government had already invested a few thousand crore rupees to build the infrastructure and ensure affordable power to the people. During the left front regime, Tripura was one of a very few load-shedding free states in the county and the state has been earning a huge revenue from power sector.
While expressing doubt the statement said, “It is suspicious whether the agreement was made by TSECL with the company. Under the agreement, the private company will do business using the infrastructure of TSECL free of cost for 10 years. The present government employed some technical workers through a private company and many of them have quit jobs without getting a salary and allowances.”
