CPI(M) flays police firing in Jharkhand

New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) The CPI(M) today flayed the police firing at a large number of tribals gathered in Seko village in Jharkhand's Khunti district yesterday when they were proceeding to participate in a rally at Ranchi
called to protest against the ordinance that seeks to amend the Chhotanagapur and Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act depriving the tribals of their traditional access to land.
Strongly condemning the police firing in Seko, the party Polit Bureau in a statement here said the killing of tribals was not a state law and order subject and demanded the central government's intervention so as to ensure that the rights of the tribals were protected. This included their democratic right to protest, it said, adding that no further encroachment on their rights to land and forest produce must be permitted.
