CPI(M) condemns forceful taking back possession of Mayor, Deputy Mayor Office

Shimla, Oct 21(UNI) The State Government & Shimla Municipal Corporation ruled by the BJP drawn a new controversy over forceful taking back of the possession of Shimla Mayor and Deputy Mayor office recently by the Deputy Commissioner Shimla.
CPI(M) district Shimla Committee Secretary Sanjay Chauhan,former Mayor of Shimla, on Monday alleged that action of Deputy Commissioner to take back the possession by throwing out the furniture of Mayor and Deputy Mayor is unfortunate and should be condemned.

He said that party Shimla unit lodged a protest before DC office over undemocratic move by the State Government which violate the 74th constitutional amendment provides power to the Urban local bodies.
He said that Mayor Kasum Sadret is recently shifted her office to newly renovated town-hall after Himachal Pradesh High court decisions that Shimla MC would retained the possession of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Office and town hall.
Deputy Mayor and Mayor's old office which had shifted to Deputy Commissioner Shimla complex in 2012 was yet to be vacated by the Deputy Mayor Rakesh Sharma who have not so far shifted his office to town hall.
Forceful eviction of Mayor Office which include furniture and other articles and of Deputy Mayor office is highly undemocratic and against the rights of constitutional institutions.
He alleged that without interference of State Government Deputy Commission could not take back the possession of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Office like this.
Meanwhile, he said that Town hall which was used by the Shimla MC to conduct its general houses and
session is yet to be restored by the SMC and the monthly meeting was being held at Bachat Bhavan
sofar.
Office bearers of MC including Mayor or Deputy Mayor including Councillors could not be treated like
this by any elected government and the action of Deputy Commissioner Shimla is unfortunate and it
should be condemned, he added.
Meanwhile,a delegation comprising of Deputy Mayor Shimla Rakesh Sharma and two
councillors of BJP met with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at his office to apprised him about the
latest development in the town seeking his intervention in the matter.
